We Are All Made of Molecules, by Susin Nielsen
Realistic fiction
Stewart and Ashley have basically nothing in common. Stewart is a nerd who has plenty of friends at Little Genius Academy. Ashley is not so smart, but she is super popular at her normal high school. In a just world, they would never have to cross paths.
Unfortunately for them, Ashley’s mom and Stewart’s dad have fallen in love – and so they are thrown together. Permanently. Stewart and his dad move into Ashley’s house, and things do not go well. Stewart is kind of excited about having a sister, but Ashley locks herself in her room so she won’t have to eat dinner with him.
And they both have plenty of other problems. Ashley can’t let anyone find out why her dad really moved out, and she’s failing every class. Stewart has to adjust to a new house and a new school, and he still thinks about his mom, who died three years ago, all the time.
Can Stewart and Ashley learn to survive in the same house – and maybe even learn to like each other? After all, they have one thing in common: they are both made of molecules.
