Book of the Week: The Thief, by Megan Whalen Turner

The Thief, Megan Whalen Turner
Adventure

First line: “I didn’t know how long I had been in the king’s prison.”

Booktalk: In a land similar to Ancient Greece where intrigue rules the day, Gen has an extremely useful skill: he is the greatest thief on earth. Unfortunately, he is also the biggest braggart on earth – and when he talks a little too much about his escapades, he ends up in the king’s prison, which is where we meet him.

As it turns out, though, the king’s magus has bigger plans for Gen. Together with the magus and his apprentices, Gen journeys over remote landscapes to reach a temple that might hold a legendary treasure – Hamiathes’ Gift, which grants immortality to its holder. If the rumors are true, Gen will have to find a way to steal this precious artifact – something that many others have attempted, though they have all died in the process.

Of course, Gen has a secret of his own, and an allegiance that the magus couldn’t have suspected. And if he makes it out alive, he has a very interesting future ahead of him…in the sequels. Perfect for fans of The False Prince, this is a great, fast-paced adventure story.
