Book of the Week: Nimona, by Noelle Stevenson

Nimona, Noelle Stevenson
Graphic novel/Fantasy

Reprinted from an award-winning webcomic, Nimona is the story of a girl – or maybe a shark – well, sometimes she’s a dragon – or a cat – well, it’s the story of a shapeshifter who is usually a teenaged girl named Nimona.

Anyway, Nimona decides to team up with Ballister Blackheart, the greatest villain in the land. At first things go great – a shapeshifter is handy to have around – but Nimona has some…violent tendencies. And despite his reputation, Blackheart is a really nice guy. Sure, he comes up with plots to destroy the Institution – who seem kind of evil themselves – but he never kills anyone. Nimona has other ideas.

Plus, as time goes on, Blackheart starts to wonder who Nimona really is. Her past is mysterious, and her behavior is getting scarier and scarier. He might be a supervillain, but he’ll have to become a hero if he’s going to save the world from Nimona – and save Nimona from herself.
